Noni Fruit Products & Their Uses

Noni juice is the best known type of noni product, and also the most commonly used in the areas where noni grows. However, the noni tree is a very versatile plant, and other noni products are often used as well, both for medicinal and other purposes. These will be explored in more detail in later posts – for now, here is a summary:

Dried noni

Noni juice is rather bitter in taste, and is unpalatable to some people. If you’re one of them, dont worry because you can still get the benefits offered by noni juice by taking it in dried form. Dried noni is usually sold in capsules, which may be easily swallowed with water.

Noni seed oil

This oil is extracted from the seeds of the noni plant, and is applied topically to the skin. It is said to have excellent hydrating properties, mkaing it good for dry skin conditions. It is also an anti-inflammatory.

Noni fruit

The whole noni fruit may be applied topically to the skin or hair, or to injuries such as broken bones and wounds. This is one of the traditional uses of noni.

Noni as a food

Although the noni fruit is strong smelling and bitter in taste, it is eaten (raw and/or cooked) in some societies. The seeds of the noni fruit may also be roasted and eaten.

Noni for pets

Animals can experience similar benefits to humans from noni fruits. Some companies produce supplements aimed at specific species such as horses. Noni juice may also be added to the diets of many pets to beneficial effect (the dosage should obviously be adjusted in proportion to the animal’s weight, and you should check with your vet before giving noni juice to a pet if the animal is on medication, or you’re unsure about anything).

Noni toiletries

Noni has a long history of topical use for skin and hair care, and is now often used as an ingredient in skincare products and other toiletries. Some noni juice manufacturers also produce entire ranges of noni body care products.

Noni dyes

Another traditional use of the noni plant is in the manufacture of dye. The bark of the noni tree produces a brown-purple colour dye, whereas the roots give a yellowish colour.
